The
Animation Society of India (TASI) organised a seminar titled ‘Music for
Animation’ at Mumbai’s IIT campus. Conducted by music composer and
producer Tapas Relia, who has worked on creating the music for Hanuman,
Hanuman Returns as well as composed ad jingles for Close-up toothpaste
and Amaron battery.
The seminar
started with Relia demonstrating some of his work from Hanuman Returns
and the Amaron commercials. He went on to explain how the music was
composed for these works of animation.
According to Relia, animators should be aware of what they wish to
highlight in a particular sequence so as to help the music composer
develop a clear idea of what he is expected to do.
Asserting that music plays a big role in creating an impact, Relia
talked about Jurassic Park and about how the music of that film is so
perfectly aligned with its theme. Relia also stuck to the puritanical
view that live music is much better than digital. Though the former is
more time-consuming, it is worth it as nothing can replace the
experience that a live performance can create.
“If I as a composer have some knowledge of cinematics, then it is just
fair to expect the same from the animators as well,” states Relia.
Overall, the three-hour seminar touched upon a number of topics ranging
from sound effects to technology in animation, music production to
editing. |
