To foster creativity among students, Arena Animation organised ‘Creative Minds’, an inter-centre competition for its students in Kolkata and the East Zone. The contest was held on January 11, 2008.
Industry stalwarts from Rhythm & Hues studio graced the event as judges. Subhajit Sarkar, Production Coordinator, and Ashis Roy, Special Effects Director from Rhythm & Hues, judged the entries and provided valuable insights to the students with regard to careers in animation and multimedia.
Shares Barunansu Sarkar, Regional Head - East, Arena Animation, “The objective of the competition was to focus on and promote professional skills among our students.
The students’ work were judged on parameters such as originality,
creativity, technical proficiency, presentation skills and time
management – all of which are essential to succeed in today’s
competitive animation and multimedia industry. The competition focused
on enhancing not just their technical skills, but also their ability to
do some research and development to produce an effective piece of work.”
Meanwhile, the competition itself required students to develop a
product advertisement promoting an original brand. The ad had to focus
on R&D, and take into account the target audience and creative
concept with a proper balance of text and graphics as well as an
original punch-line/ caption. The ad had to be produced either for the
print medium or developed in a multimedia format (i.e., interactive
CD-ROM presentation/ animation/ web design).
